A couple of years ago I recommended a book to an African American friend about the experience of Black teenagers at a high school close to the one that I attended. She asked me why I had recommended the book to her, and told me that she did not need to read the book, that was her experience, and for me not to realize that demonstrated my white privilage. I am so grateful to have friends willing to be bold and call me out.
