“That guy” Calling for Unity?

For Real?

Is there a possibility of a change in perception for “that guy”? Maybe or maybe not.

When I went to bed last night I heard reports of the beginning of that guy’s acceptance speech at the Republican National Convention where he called for unity in the US. Wow, I thought, that is certainly a change in his speaking. Maybe, just maybe, he might be changing his tone. Lord knows I have prayed for that.

Speaking of the Lord, let me say that Jesus is my guy. I learned about Him in my Baptist Sunday School, and, although I don’t always talk about it, that early message has leaned into my life. My relationship with Him is different now — more that of a trusted older brother with whom I can share everything and delight in even the struggles I have in life. My prayers, however, seem to try to jump over Him to the Big Guy Himself (not that little guy to whom I refer who is running for president).

I have prayed to Him, the Big Guy, for that little guy who is running for president who used to be president before. I have prayed that he find compassion for immigrants, that he soften his view and tone regarding revenge for his political opponents, that he be truthful in his claims of his own accomplishments and that of others. I have also been guilty of wanting him to continue his nasty ways of being so I can continue to justify my wanting to vote for anyone else but him. What I ultimately want, however, is for all of us to work together to…
